PIER's Job Training Center Organization and Structure

1.    Technical manuals, internet support, international warehouses, and island customers are English-language based. Technical and vocational job skills require solid math usage.  Therefore, all courses will include basic English and math skills

2.    Many of our students will have not attended school at all, or only a few years of elementary school. Others will have completed part or all of high school. To ensure success of all our students, PIER will offer a Basic Adult Education program for students who do not meet vocational education class prerequisites.

3.    The desire for Vocational and Technical courses is great on our island.  However, there is no funding for a full-fledged program.  PIER's strategy is to build a partnership with the community (on and off-island) to create courses.  Once a community group identifies it as a priority for the island and agrees to support the development and delivery of the course.

4.   PIER's role will be to coordinate the project, provide teaching space, supervise the teachers, and otherwise administer the program.  PIER will provide student support with the Adult Basic Education English and math classes, books and reference materials, tutoring, and computer labs. Additionally, we will coordinate with local businesses to provide apprenticeships, work/school scholarships, and job placement referrals.
