To improve the economic development of the island and the quality of life of its people by ensuring the excellence of education.

We strive to meet seven key goals crucial to the success of the education system for Roatan:

ü Encourage education beyond the 6th grade

ü Create a better educated local workforce

ü Generate a supply of qualified education staff

ü Emphasize island culture and Spanish and English learning

ü Encourage community involvement and pride

ü Effectively use of technology

ü Ensure a place in school for every child

Asociacion Pro Integracion Educativa Roatan (PIER) is a Honduras non-profit organization (NGO).

Brain Spaces, Inc, a USA 501c3 corporation, coordinates US donations to PIER projects.

                                    PIER'S 2011 - 2012 ACTION PLAN

I. SAND CASTLE LIBRARY & COMMUNITY CENTER                                                                   $23,000 needed

Components: Sand Castle Library programs, tutoring services, Community Center development, & Brain Spaces  

Objective:    Increase the literacy rate on Roatan by providing easy access to books and activities that improve the reading abilities of clients

II.   BILINGUAL EDUCATION                                                                               $1,500 needed

Components: School Outreach, Teachers Resource Center, E-Learning Centers, Teacher Training

Objective: Foster a quality bilingual education program on Roatan
