WINTER CAMP

PIER's 1st Annual Winter Camp opened November 28, during Roatan public schools' winter break.   We enrolled 20 children (two age groups) in the 6-week math, English, Arts & Crafts, Science, and Sports program.  The teachers' goal was to present creative approaches to teaching, with lots of hands-on activities to demonstrate concepts.  How hard can it be?  How long can it take?

After the first day we realized these kids were SMART and ready to learn.  We needed to replan and get on their level.  Before the end of session 1 (the first 3 weeks), 50 kids had enrolled!  Half of them didn't speak English!  So we re-replanned.  Thelma, our librarian took these kids and began English classes.  Tanya, John and Kemberlie took on the others.  Our 2nd session opens January 7.  We think we are ready!!!
